Boba Is Life

Quickly’s is a boba tea shop that started in Taiwan. It was one of the first big boba franchises in the United States. This is now a big franchise business with over 2000 stores around the world. However, this brand reputation has been on the decline with the popularity of numerous other boba brands. Online shopping and online ordering has been a growing market and grew even bigger during the pandemic. Quickly has not pivoted or utilized the function of their online presence. Having a functioning website is key for growth.

Website Makeover

I partnered with the local business owner of Quickly’s in Benicia, CA.

The goal is to understand the key reasons that play a vital role in obtaining new and repeat customers and tailor the website to improve site performance to help engage customers.

  • Having trouble finding people willing to participate due to the sensitivity of the topic.

  • Being able to build trust and let the participants think deeper and open up.

The beverage market is a $203 billion dollar industry. The boba market along is $2.7 billion dollar industry. Below are comparisons of 3 boba stores along with two indirect competitors of beverages.

Data was given regarding store’s customer’s profile sectioned by age range. I tried to survey participants of a wider age range to mimic the customer data from the store.

Creating a sitemap helped me organize drinks into categories and create a website that is easy to navigate.

Wireframe

Wireframe

After creating a sitemap helped me map out a low fidelity wireframe of five webpages I needed for the new website. These webpages consist of the home page, about page, menu page, confirmation page and a checkout page

Rebranding

Rebranding

With the explosive expansion of boba brands over the recent years, Quickly’s became a thing of the past. With a competitive market, their image of good drinks declined.

The old website felt outdated, the ordering system didn’t work, and also there were no pictures next to the menu items.

The New and Improved

I elaborated on two task flows and one user flow. One task flow involves comparing clinics, a popular feature many participants expressed they wanted, often making their own spreadsheets to contrast clinics. Another crucial task flow for participants is reviewing feedback. Hence, the ability to read about other clients' experiences plays a significant role in selecting the suitable clinic.

Since Quickly's current image is described as low quality, I decided to highlight the use of premium ingredients to showcase high quality.

Style Tile

Style Tile

Quickly's brand color is all about orange. I wanted to keep the color palette of the logo throughout the design of the website to have consistency and a touch of vibrancy in every page. The challenge was to not have the orange be too overpowering.

The New and Improved

The New and Improved

Incorporating the orange by having that has the CTA button. Also alternating with green as well due to the logo having green in it helps give the website more contrast. With having gray or white as the background helps neutralize the overpowering orange and gives balance to the website.

Reflection

Partnering with a local business for developing a website is a process of compromise. I achieved the design balance I wanted of sophistication with touches of fun. Looking forward to see the website be live in the near future with repeat customer orders driving up sales.
